When you first buy a K&N filter, the cotton gauze is a nice red colour becuase of the oil sprayed on them to collect the dirt however after a year or so the nice red colour changes to a brown dirty colour. The filter is likely to be clogged up restricting the air flow to the engine.

1. Open the bonnet and remove the air filter by removing the jubily clip holding it to the plastic intake pipe

2. Take the filter to a suitable place to clean it.
|
|
3. Brush down the fins on the filter to remove any loose dirt. Be careful not to drive the dirt further into the cotton.

|
4. Wearing gloves spray the cleaning fluid liberally onto the dirty side of the filter ensuring the fins are well covered.

5. Leave the filter for 10 mins to let the fluid soak in

|
6. After 10 mins rinse the filter from the inside to work the dirt outwards.

|
7. Leave for 20 mins or longer to fully dry.
|
|
8. Take the oil and spray the oil from bottom to top making sure the oil is sprayed down every fin.
|
|
| 9. Leave for 20mins and check the filter for white patches missed by the oil. Respray if nessecary. The gauze should be covered with oil not to the point where its dripping with it.

|
10. Wipe clean the chrome and rubber sections of the induction kit.
|
|
| 11. Replace the filter on the car. |
